Mandrake 9.1
Mandrake v9.1 is the distribution I use. Im gonna start with a story on starting with Linux: I was started out a Windows user of the operating system Windows 95, as the years went by I went to Windows 98SE. I did get the annoying 'blue screen of death' and didnt see that moving to a newer version would help, other than the Mac, I thought there was a new operating system out there. I kept hearing the name 'Linux' and 'Unix' in forums and chat rooms and decided to search on Google.com about Linux. The first query I choose was about Linus Torvalds and his creation of Linux, I thought it would be expensive because people were talking about stability, but when I did some searches and ask some of my friends, it turns out the operating system was free, and the software is often free because Linux is all about Open-Source. Open Source didnt mean alot to me because I am not a good programmer in C, but I do have to say that I havent 'tried' to learn it. My friends took long to reply my posts in forums so I found a Linux operating system called Mandrake, I looked at their screen shots and documentation to learn how to install it and what to download and after a few hours of downloading, and installing I had my very own copy of Linux. Now after a year, I've learnt alot about this operating system and Linux but still do ask help those Linux Guru's. I recommend Linux to everyone struggling with buggy operating systems (no names mentioned) or if you want to try Linux straight from your CD-ROM then download and burn or order a copy of MandrakeMove, Lindows Live, or Knoppix Live. Im running AMSN (a linux msn which connects to the same msn server), running KDevelop (a programming IDE), KSpace (a space game), XMMS (a multimedia program), running a WINDOWS program using WINE, and those ugly black consoles you see? Those run most of the software you see there! How To Have More Than 128Mb of Swap? How To Make a Rescue Floppy See our index for more reviews Write a review and win an Apple Ipod
