Mandrake92a
Hello All. I decided to try Mandrake 9.2 a while back and now my brother wanted it so we popped in the *nix Hard Drive into his computer and installed. Install went fine and I think that even my grandparents could figure it out on the easy setting.
Everything installed fine and we rebooted, logged into KDE, and then started to update. First: Games. Not all are installed by deafult. ALso GDM if you want and I think that XMMS is not installed right, so you have to install that. All this is done through the 'add packages' program. Once we had configured all our packages we decided to play some music, so we oppened up his windows drive and played his MP3's and streamed some music from radiostorm.
Ok, so music can't sustain us forever, so we downloaded the NVIDIA drivers, which installed just fine, and got the UT2004 demo, which is one of the best games of the year. We got that all set up and decided to have a little lan game for 30 minutes.
Well, we cant have fun forever-and that means homework. So, we just open Openoffice and started using it. I use it on my windows machine here. We actually have found that OO is more compatable with Office than Microsoft is with itself sometimes. We have had backwards compatability errors but no more with OO.
I would recomend this distrobution to newbies as it is easy to install and configure and help is widely available and your problem has probably already been solved. -Daniel How Do I Port XXX to Linux? How Do I Remove (or Change) the Colors in the ls Display?
