With he advent of the European Union and its developing body of intelectual property law, an interesting situation will occur with regards to the Linux Operating System. At a recent meeting of an European Union Sub-Comitee on intelectual property, the linux being an oppen source program came up. They were concerned with the posibility of Eropean Union Countries increasing the use of the Linux operating software on a variety of services ranging from servers to work-station application. This concern reflects the fear that someone like Microsoft, IBM, Cisco, etc. will develop legal claims to certain aspects of Linux. This would start a firestorm of various intelectual property (IP) legal calims in World Court and freeze those companies relying heaviliy on Linux. Yes, most of the linux comunity realizes that this is a farr fetched situation and some would even charge that this notion of someone suing over the rights to Linux is oburde.
